Gumboot: The Local Way to Get Stuff Done

Gumboot connects people who need a hand with locals who can help — from mowing the lawns to moving a couch. Here’s how it works and why we’re building it for Kiwis.

Gumboot: The Local Way to Get Stuff Done

Gumboot is a simple way to get local jobs done — by locals.

Whether it’s mowing the lawn, moving a couch, cleaning a flat, or doing a quick dump run, Gumboot connects people who need a hand with people who are keen to help, all backed by secure payments and clear communication.

Why we’re building Gumboot

We kept seeing the same problems:

Facebook groups full of lost posts and random comments

No-shows and cash jobs with zero protection

People willing to help, but no simple way to find them

Gumboot is our answer. A cleaner, safer, NZ-first way to:

Post a job in a few taps

Get clear offers from locals

Choose who you like the look of

Pay securely — no awkward “cash or bank transfer?” chats

How Gumboot works (for posters)

Post a job Add a short title, description, photos, budget and location.

Get offers from locals People near you can make offers with a price and a short note.

Choose your helper Compare ratings, reviews and profiles. Pick the one that feels right.

Pay securely Payments go through Gumboot using Stripe. No chasing, no random bank accounts.

Rate and review After the job’s done, both sides leave a review to help the next person choose.

How it works (for helpers)

If you’re someone who likes getting stuck in — mowing lawns, cleaning, gardening, moving, odd jobs — Gumboot helps you:

Find real jobs nearby

Get paid securely into your account

Build a reputation with ratings and reviews

Turn spare time into extra income

You can browse jobs, make offers, and choose the work that suits you.

Built for Aotearoa

We’re starting in New Zealand first, focusing on:

Local trust – verified profiles and ratings

Clear communication – in-app messaging and job details

Secure payments – powered by Stripe, with receipts and records

We want Gumboot to feel like that neighbour who’s always got a mate with a trailer – just in app form.

Where we’re at now

Gumboot is currently in beta, which means:

Features are still being polished

New improvements are rolling out quickly

We’re listening closely to early users

If you want to be part of shaping Gumboot from the ground up, join the beta, post a job, or take on a task and tell us what works (and what doesn’t).

What’s next

Over the coming months we’re working on:

More powerful profiles for posters and helpers

Better tools for regular taskers

Smarter job matching by location and skills

If you’re keen to follow along, keep an eye on the blog or join the waitlist in the app.

Gumboot is all about making it easy to say:

“Sweet as, I’ll sort that for you.”
